The Four Rivers Special Education District serves all of six
counties and parts of two others. These are Brown, Calhoun,
Cass, Greene, Macoupin, Morgan, Pike and Scott. Within this
approximately 3200 square mile area are nineteen school
districts that hold membership in the Special Education District.
The special education district was formed in 1967. The four
rivers in the title represent rivers that form the natural
boundaries within the Special District. They are the Sangamon,
LaMoine, Illinois and Mississippi. The district is governed by a
Council which includes representatives from each of the school
districts and by a nine member Operating Board that meets
monthly.
